Getting the Right Water Heater for Your Rv the First Time
So it is time to replace your water heater. One of the best ways to make this project most successful is to have a plan. The plan is easy if you are going to replace the rv water heater with the same one. If this is the case you need to identify the brand name and the model number. If it is an older model it is quite possible that your model is discontinued, but fear not the new replacement is just the new and improved one that will take the place of your old one.
The brand—The brand will most likely be an Atwood or Suburban. Let’s begin with the Atwoods. There are basically three categories as far as ignition goes.
1. Pilot Ignition- if you have an Atwood water heater that is a 6 gallon capacity and lit by pilot light only you have/ or will replace it with the most economical, time tested, therefore reliable model number Atwood G6A-7 with an aftermarket part number 96110. If you want to put in a nicer one you can.
2. The 10 gallon model would be G102 or GC10A-2 or part number 94180 or 94186
3. Pilot Ignition Re-Light- This basically the same unit but it will re-light if it goes out. This Atwood model number G6A-7P and part number 96365
4. Electronic Ignition—This water heater offers convenience and safety. In reality all you have to do is flip a switch usually by your inside door and abra cadabra the water heater lights. This Atwood number in gas only is G6A-8E or if you want heat exchanger it would be GH6-8E
5. Combination Gas/Electric- would be 96163 for a 6 gallon and 94022 or 94023 for the 10 gallon capacities.
All of the six gallon Atwood water heaters are 16 inches wide x12.5 inches tall x 18 inches deep. For exact measurements you can go to atwoodmobile.com
Suburban Water Heater Information
· Examine some of the many options available with Suburban Water Heaters.
Options
Suburban water heaters are available in 4-, 6-, 10-, 12- and 16-gallon capacities. Our standard gas models have become the industry standard, while Suburban's optional gas-electric model provides the added performance of a 1,440-watt element at campsites. Certain models are available with a motor aid heat exchanger, which utilizes heat from the motorhome's engine to help heat water during operation.

Ignition Options
Our standard pilot ignition system offers simple and reliable operation.
- In poor weather conditions, owners might prefer Suburban's automatic models with direct spark ignition, which features a remote switch that electronically controls the water heater.
- On pilot reignition models, a reignitor eliminates the need to relight the pilot and sounds an alarm when the pilot is extinguished or the gas supply is turned off.
