The Evolution Of RV Door Locks
There is a massive movement in what door locks are being used in travel trailers today. It is simply incredible how far this product has evolved.

For 30 years, RV door locks is one of the things that for years saw no real change. For the most part, one had a normal household entry handle and knob. Maybe some would have a knob on both the exterior and interior of the recreational vehicle. The small difference of another similar lock would be a round knob on the exterior and a flat handle on the interior.

There were some truly different locks and recreational vehicle motor homes, but in this article, we are most discussing the RV door locks often found in travel trailers.

The aforementioned door locks often used until about 10 years ago. There was a significant change in the style block that manufacturers began to use. This new RV door lock is sleeker in appearance. It was flat on the interior and exterior. Both handles inset into the main body of the mechanism. There were two large changes in this lock over what had previously been used.

First, entire mechanism was flat both inside and out. The new lock gave the overall look of the door a much more modern appearance than the old style lock. With a handle that is inset instead of protruding three inches out it also helped alleviate the doorknob catching on something.

Secondly, the new style had a built-in dead bolt lock. Previously one would have had a household type looking doorknob and then above it one would have a dead bolt lock. The new product allowed for both the entry lock and the dead bolt to be incorporated into one mechanism. This was a change that is hugely accepted and liked by most consumers that previously had a unit with the old-style locks.

The newest evolution of RV door locks is the same housing, but can be opened remotely. This is often referred to as keyless entry. This is making a significant splash into the RV marketplace. One of the best keyless entries in the market today has all the components built into the mechanism itself. Some producers of this style lock have placed part of the mechanism in another part of the door.

Having all the components in one housing will make repairs much easier. While this keyless entry is making its way into the marketplace, the overall style of the lock has not changed. If you are looking for any kind of lock you might also want to search for RV Door Latches.

I recently wrote an article called the evolution of RV door locks. In it, I mentioned keyless entry locks. Mobile Outfitters, a division of Lippert Components has a new RV lock in today's marketplace.

I believe that this will be an enormous success in the RV world soon. Travel trailers and other types of recreational vehicles continue to be equipped heavily. While keyless entry is not new, this product is. For years, we had a typical doorknob. Then we went to the square or rectangular flat door lock. They had not changed the appearance of that lock for many years. Mobile Outfitters new RV Lock looks modern and sleek. The addition of this lock immediately gives an RV and upgraded look.

Keyless entry has been around for a while. The difference in Mobile Outfitters RV Lock is that all components are housed inside the lock itself, including the remote features. This making the unit self-contained. Many makers of keyless entry locks have some of the components in the door. This makes repairs and maintenance considerably more difficult. This lock can be installed in minutes making it a perfect aftermarket product.

Many of the old locks had repeated keys. The RV Lock has over one million combination possibilities. This makes it virtually impossible for someone to crack your secret code. This gives one the added security that everyone wants. It is made of heavy duty steel. There was no scrimping on the quality of this lock.

The RV Lock has a key FOB is easy to use and easy to program. In addition, it also has a wireless keypad that can be located anywhere on the coach. The convenience of both will make locking and unlocking much easier for the family. One person can have the key Fob and another could use the keypad.

So what are the benefits of this Mobile Outfitters RV Lock? The benefits are numerous. This lock would give your recreational vehicle, travel trailer, fifth wheel, or toy hauler and immediate makeover. It gives added security is necessary in today's world. It is easily installed. A recreational vehicle technician can install it, but so can the do-it-yourselfer. It gives the family multiple ways of getting into the camper.

So if, you are looking for a new lock for your recreational vehicle this lock would be a definite upgrade. It will fit in the same cut out as your old lock. I wish you the best in all of your RV adventures.
